Jain Irrigation and Supercritical agree 19,000 biochar carbon removal tonnes

Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. has finalised an agreement with carbon removal marketplace Supercritical for the supply of up to 19,000 tonnes of biochar carbon removal credits. The credits will be delivered across 2026 and 2027 from Jain Irrigation's industrial biochar production facility in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, India. The facility uses gasification to convert agricultural and food-processing residues into biochar, which is then deployed to agricultural soils. This collaboration addresses challenges in securing reliable, long-term supply chains for engineered carbon removal, leveraging Jain Irrigation's established agricultural network. The project is undergoing verification by Puro.earth and an independent rating by BeZero Carbon.
