72 organisations call on Danone to stop trading Aceh mangrove carbon credits

Seventy-two organisations have called for the Livelihoods Funds to cease trading carbon credits from a mangrove restoration project in Aceh, Indonesia, citing 'severe impacts' on Indigenous peoples. The project, which has operated since 2011 and was registered with Verra in April 2020, is intended to generate 124,706.67 tonnes of CO2e. Livelihoods Funds, an investment vehicle with corporations including Danone as investors, claims the project revitalises coastal villages. However, the organisations allege the project threatens the existence of Indigenous communities and their role in forest protection. This development follows an October 2025 agreement between Verra and the Indonesian government to expand access to climate finance and integrate projects with Indonesia's national registry system.
