Gold Standard launches five methodology consultations, including first biochar standard

Gold Standard initiated public consultations on five new and updated methodologies, including its first biochar carbon dioxide removal (CDR) standard, Production and Application for the Removal of Carbon via Biochar (PARC), on 22 April 2026. The PARC methodology establishes a pure CDR framework, issuing credits exclusively for durable CO2 sequestration, and features a three-track architecture to accommodate projects from micro-scale to industrial facilities. Other consultations include the Sustainable Transformation Through Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (STARR) methodology, a revision of its forestry framework, and new approaches for rice systems, efficient cookstoves, and water purification. These updates aim to enhance integrity, scalability, and alignment with the Paris Agreement across diverse project types. The consultations are part of Gold Standard's 2026 Standards Setting Workplan.
