Gold Standard has launched consultations for two new methodologies, 'JUST: Coal Decommissioning' and 'JUST: Fossil Fuel Generators', aimed at mobilising finance for the managed phase-out of fossil fuels. These methodologies incentivise the early retirement of fossil fuel infrastructure, including coal power stations and decentralised generators, and their replacement with renewable energy. The 'JUST: Coal Decommissioning' methodology supports the early retirement of coal plants and their replacement with renewables, while 'JUST: Fossil Fuel Generators' focuses on replacing decentralised fossil fuel generators with renewable energy systems. Both methodologies are designed to align with the Paris Agreement and reward verified emissions reductions, supporting a just transition away from fossil fuels. Gold Standard is also consulting on Just Transition Requirements to ensure fairness for workers and communities.
